In linear guides with rolling elements, balls slip against each other in opposite directions at their point contact. The high-speed point contact results in massive pressures that break down the oil film (at 3 kg/mm2 surface pressure) between balls.A non-contact ball retainer eliminates point contact to reduce noise and maintenance in type SSR LM guides. The retainer positions balls evenly, improves grease retention, reduces heat generation, and extends life.
The company claims that smooth operation and less variation in rolling resistance lowers torque requirements to 1/10 that of conventional types.
